Help Required
We at the Mayfly community cafe have started work on improving the plot of land behind our premises. Our aim is to turn the land from a fly-tipped wasteland into an area which contributes value to the immediate area. This means improving the look of the land, but also adding to biodiversity through responsible management and best practices for wildlife; improving mental health; and strengthening community ties as people get involved. We welcome any help that comes our way, but assistance from those in the allotment community - and the knowledge and experience that would come with it - would be hugely valued. Our next major task is to clear an area of rubble and undergrowth, and filth the soil in preparation for sowing a wildflower meadow. We’re aiming to begin tackling this on Tuesday, October 1st. If you’d like to come along and find out more, please do get in touch with us at themayflylt@gmail.com, or drop by for a chat at the Mayfly - 72 Lowestoft High Street - on any weekday from 10.00 until 14.30.
Notice to Tenants
The proposal to allow joint tenancy between two people was passed at the AGM. If any current tenants wish to add a second person to their tenancy please either contact you're site representative, the secretary or the chairperson. Contact details are posted on notice boards at each site. Please note that any decisions will be made during committee meetings.

why Have an Allotment?

Your Food Your Way

It is too easy to visit the local supermarket for our fruit and veg needs. But often this produce comes from half way across the world. Growing your own produce means you know the food you are eating.

Feed your family

An allotment can produce enough food to supplement a family's weekly shop, with fresh fruit and vegetables over the year.

Save Money

It does not cost much to have an allotment and you also save on your weekly shop. The cost of seeds is minimal and so the main effort in growing produce on an allotment is your time.

Keep Fit

An allotment can be a great chance to get fit as well as growing your own healthy produce which will encourage you to eat healthily and is great for your mental health.

Reduce Food Waste

Only produce you will eat. Allowing vegetables and fruit to stay on the plant means you can harvest when you need them and reduce waste.

Make new Friends

Allotments are a great way to meet like-minded people. With people of all ages and from all walks of life you are bound to make friends with your allotment neighbours!
